Origins and dose

The England Rugby team were given our beetroot juice for their nutritional build up to the 2010 season. Some loved it, others were less keen! We developed the idea of a 7cl concentrated beetroot shot to deliver the equivalent dose of dietary nitrate (5mMol) - which we now recommend as the optimum daily dose - as naturally found in 25cl BEET IT beetroot juice. It is cut with lemon juice to reduce it natural sweetness. As a result it neither tastes not smell of beetroots, and has proved so popular that all the major sports teams we now supply take the BEET IT stamina shot.

Beetroot juice is now the preferred way used by research teams to achieve a boost Nitric Oxide (NO) levels in the blood. Enzymes in saliva breakdown the uniquely high levels of natural dietary nitrate found in the juice. There are many benefits of boosting NO levels, but the Sports Science team at Exeter University led by Professor Andy Jones have focused on oxygen utilization efficiency and have found a significant stamina boost as a consequence – see more on our research page.

For optimum results, we recommend that you have one Beet It stamina shot 1-2 hours before exercise. Some of our elite athletes insist that the best results come from taking the shot on a loading basis, ie. having one shot a day for 1-2 weeks before an event. However research shows that athletes will feel an effect after just one stamina shot.

Our stamina shots also carry the logo of Informed Sport, an organization that tests products to provide assurance that sportspeople will not fail drugs tests as a result of using them.
