CrossFit Elite - Shaikha Al Qassemi
Shaikha Al Qassemi is a CrossFit athlete who achieved 3rd place in her first appearance at the 2015 Battle of the East competition. Shaikha aims to compete more regionally and internationally in CrossFit.
How did you get involved in CrossFit?
I got involved back in 2013 when I found myself getting bored in the gym, I wanted to look for something challenging, exciting and competitive and found CrossFit.
Do you have an athlete role model who inspired you?
I have so many athletes I look up to, Annie Thorisdottir and Katrin Davidsdottir are two athletes that I have been following for 5 years and have watched them grow as Elite athletes. However, I do find inspiration in each and every athlete that I am familiar with, the members at my gym that I coach and even the ones that tell me they’ve started their fitness journeys because of me. I find inspiration in all.
What advice would you give to someone considering taking up CrossFit?
Don’t rush the process, enjoy it, find people who can help guide and support you on the right path towards your individual goals.
Best CrossFit achievement so far?
Taking third place at Battle of the East at my first time competing there in 2015.
Aspirations in CrossFit for 2018 and beyond?
I want to compete more regionally and internationally.
What are your top three sport nutrition tips?
Firstly, Hydration is the most important to keep you recovered. Secondly, supplementation is not as important as nutrition. Supplementation will only help if your nutrition is on point. Thirdly, with everything comes balance, make sure you do get a lot of sleep to be able to recover.
What are your top three training tips?
1. Be mindful of the way you move, quality over quantity always.
2. Speaking of quality over quantity, less is more!! Avoid over training.
3. Your core is the base of everything else, make sure you take time during your training to incorporate your core exercises.
Can you give us an insight into your pre-event routine?
Pre-competition routine for me is to always check my intention and be mindful of my actions. Second would be sleep as much as I can! Third would be fuel, and I make sure I have a Beet-it Sport Shot to hand!
How did you hear about Beet It Sport?
I came across it through Instagram, I follow one of Beet It Sport ambassadors, Jacqueline Dahlstrom and she posted about it a few times. I did some research and found that it was also available in the UAE! So I had to place an order and try it out.
Why do you use Beet It Sport and how has it helped you?
I have been recovering from an injury since August last year, I’ve only recently started coming back into training since January. In a few months I’ve noticed my it has helped with my endurance, given me energy and I’ve seen improvements with my performance as well.
