Rugby Union player, Charlie Ewels
Charlie Ewels is an English professional rugby player who plays second row for Bath RFC. He is included in the England Rugby squad for the opening match of the Old Mutual Wealth Series against Argentina on November 11th – keep an eye out for Charlie if you are watching! Charlie was recommended Beet It Sport by his club nutritionist and thinks it boosts his match day performance.
How did you get involved with rugby?
I played one football game in goal and we lost 16-0. From this point, I decided to give rugby a go.

What advice would you give to a young, aspiring rugby player?
Be a sponge, soak up as much information as you can.
Your best rugby achievement so far?
Winner of the World Rugby U20 Championships – it was a very special moment for me.
What are your aspirations in rugby?
I aspire to win the Aviva Premiership Cup and European Rugby Championships Cup playing for Bath.
Tell us something that most people don’t know about you?
I have an extra piece of bone on the end of one of my ribs.
Can you give us an insight into your pre-match routine? – Hydration, nutrition, music choice etc...
I start with foam rolling, followed by stretches, listen to chilled out music whilst I try to visualise a few of the key plays.
What are your top three sport nutrition tips?
- Eat little and often.
- Don’t eat processed food. Stick to natural foods.
- Colourful plate every time you eat.
What are your top three training tips?
- Push yourself during every session.
- Train everything, work on your strengths and weaknesses.
- Always try new things.
